As a die hard fan of HIMYM -
"HIMYM? say wuuuuut?"
- ugh, How I Met Your Mother, i'm gonna blog about the season finale of season 7, because it's just legend - wait for it - dary! legendary!
LEGENDARILY LONG POST ALERT. THIS IS A RECAP OF A COUPLE OF EPISODES BECAUSE
AND I BLOG THIS WITH LOVE.
after i've watched the finale, i was like
but of course, with a face full of happiness and eyes full of tears.
the episode showed what i have been hoping for and expecting, much unlike the final episode of season 6, which i did not see that coming, and which was awesomely mind blowing, this -
but who's the freaking bride?! i'm a devoted shipper of Barney/Robin. i will go down with the ship.
At the wedding, Barney and Ted were talking about which 'tie' Barney should wear, whether he should have picked the other one, he was worried about picking the wrong 'tie' to wear for the rest of his life. it's clear how he was not talking about ties, but rather about the bride. did he choose the right bride? well of course he did, if she's Robin.
when he first fell for Robin, he told Ted about it as if he was talking about his suit.
the question is this time, was the 'tie' Robin or Nora?
at the end of the episode, Lily told Ted that the bride wanted to see him.
the question is, who wanted to see Ted? a bit weird isn't it if it was Nora, since they weren't really friends... SO IT SHOULD BE ROBIN!
but we'd never know, until we watch the last scene of the last episode of this latest season.
before we get there, let's take a look of what happened along the way.
The Best Man
Robin realized she still had feelings for Barney. Lily, being Lily, much like me, smelled it.
after being encouraged by Lily, Robin was about to tell Barney how she felt, they danced and it got sweetly intense, and she was like i have something to tell you, but his phone ranged. it's Nora, tadaaa! really? Nora, there's no better timing, eh?
he didn't know what to say, so he asked Robin for help. Robin, who was supposed to help Barney get back together with Nora, indirectly told him how she felt and Barney, obliviously, repeated all the words Robin said to Nora.
i was sure seconds before he got the call, Barney felt something was there too, just like the last episode of the previous season, before he bumped into Nora.
then Robin was talking to Ted who seemed to have lost faith in fate, much unlike him. Robin said
"if you have chemistry you only need one other thing – timing"
when she said that, i knew she has always had chemistry with Barney, but the timing, not yet. the timing will be right one day, but not yet. that's enough to keep me going.
Tick Tick Tick
This is one of the saddest episodes ever. just look at this poster above you'll know it's not gonna be good for your fangirl's (if you're a fanboy i'll give you an internet high five! *place your palm on the screen*) heart and eyes.
Barney and Robin had to deal with the consequences of cheating on their partner. the kiss in the previous one made me go all "awwwh i knew this would happen again!" i'd never tolerate anyone's cheating but kamonnn, this is barney and robin! it only shows how they couldn't stay away from each other, and destiny would always find a way because they're meant to be together.
Barney said to Robin
“What if this whole thing isn’t the story of how we both made a horrible mistake and ruined our relationships? What if it’s actually the story of … how we got back together?”
YESSS! A STORY OF HOW YOU GOT BACK TOGETHER! AND HOW TED MET THE MOTHER!
so they decided to tell their partner what happened. Barney wanted to tell Nora, but at that time Nora was introducing her parents to Barney. Nora's dad then said to them
and you know who's and what's in Barney's mind when his eyes were on Nora? THIS
KENOT STOP THINKING - BEST FRIEND - SOUL MATE - KENOT COMPARE
So, Barney admitted what he did, quite unexpectedly, well, being Barney... you should know how he was or who he used to be. he was brave enough to admit it, selfless to face the outcome, regret it and apologized, just for the sake of Robin, that meant a lot of love, coming from Barney. Nora asked if it was a one time thing, if he could tell her it didn't mean anything. Barney said no.
Robin wanted to tell Kevin what happened. but Kevin didn't want to know. He's ok with everything, he said. Robin asked Kevin the same thing he did Barney -
tick, tick, tick...
Barney was waiting at the bar for Robin.
the gang found Barney and he told them he and Nora broke up. he said "at least, the worst part is over." oh Barney, sweet, sweet Barney. you must think it's the worst you had to deal with right? after this you and Robin would have a happy ending, what could be worse? well just wait a sec my friend.
Robin walked into the bar, and Barney had this little half-smile, because what they did was a secret, but he couldn't hide his smile anyway, his happiness, relief and love shone on his face. to him there she was... we're gonna tell the gang... and you'd be mine again... for good this time.
but then he saw Kevin walking in behind Robin.
HIS FACE. HIS BLOODY FREAKING FACE. YOU CAN HEAR HIS HEART SHATTERING AND MY MOANING. NEIL, YOU'VE ALWAYS BEEN A LEGENDARY ACTOR BRO, BUT THIS TIME YOU BROUGHT IT TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL. YO FACE KILLED MEH.
Robin turned around, and Barney did like this head thing, his expression was like "what happened?" but you still can see there's a lil hope left in him, like he's not giving up yet, but then she was like
tick, tick, tick, the second that will never end
to Barney, time stopped, everyone else was on pause except him. you could only hear the ticking of the clock. he was confused and crushed, he had headache from all these feelings he couldn't bear. when time resumed its normal speed, he told the gang he's leaving, "tough night." they all thought it was because of Nora, but Robin knew better. Barney knew better.
as Ted went back to the apartment, he saw Barney in Robin's bedroom, picking rose petals and blowing off candles, throwing everything into a garbage bin.
Barney and Robin's kids
the episode featured Robin's kids. Robin told Barney she might be pregnant, and he was the father. I WAS LIKE OH MY GOD SHE'S PREGNANT WITH BARNEY'S BABY IS THIS REAL WORLD OR IS THIS A FANTASY???
so instead of Ted, she was the one narrating and telling the kids "this is a story of how i met your father," and it shows the father is Barney. the kids looked like both of them, and her son was wearing a suit! i can imagine Barney suiting up his baby boy when he was only a month old! the apartment, the furniture, the place sure looked like Barney's taste.
but then... we found out the pregnancy was a false alarm.
and then... we found out that Robin... couldn't have a baby.
and that... she was sitting all alone imagining talking to imaginary kids of her own.
well, i did.
Robin was never someone who wanted to settle down and have kids. but when she knew she wouldn't have kids not because she didn't want to, but because she couldn't, it affected her. even if she changed her mind, there's nothing she could do. it's different, not wanting and not being able to have children. she actually cried. it's one of the most devastating news a woman can ever hear.
she didn't tell anyone about it, although the gang noticed her difference. they didn't know, but they were there for her. she was never alone.
i said that Robin wasn't the type to get married didn't i? but she had matured, her character had developed. Kevin proposed. she wanted to say yes, but she knew she had to tell him about her being infertile. Kevin's response was "will you marry me?" for the second time.
Robin told him again, it's not like she couldn't have kids, she didn't want them too. she wanted to make it clear - not adoption, not whatever. and.... Kevin unproposed.
for the first time she was ready for something serious, and she was with someone who she wanted to be serious with, but that didn't happen. because she didn't want kids.
that's how they broke up.
Woaaa Ted, Siriusly?
after Robin broke up with Kevin, out of nowhere, there came Ted blurting "i love you" to robin, again. waddehel? ted? rly? again? r u kidding me? u're killing me!
if you were a real person Ted, i would give you hell. to fall in love as easily as you fall out of love, IS NOT COOL. you're all about finding the right girl you ruin others and even yourself in the process. you're confuse about whom to choose, and between being lonely, needy or in love. but at least you're serious with every girl you meet, thinking she could be the one not just juggling them like toys and playing with them whenever you want. but you use the L word way to soon, i'm sure it's not even real love. when you finally find her, the waiting's gonna be worth it. i love you for being such a guy and i wish i were the one with the yellow umbrella, but stop being desperate, ok? ESP NOT WITH ROBIN.
i hate Ted/Robin together is one thing, but Ted acting stupid, is another. i don't think this is even a crush or a confusion, let alone love, this is a loner loving the idea of being in love! i understand, it's torturing you, the waiting. you've stopped hoping for destiny to arrive at your doorstep after a parade of wrong girls you used to date. i too, love the idea of love, but let's not be some desperados, shall we?
i know the point is for Ted to find closure, but how many closures do you need? ok when you guys broke up it was because Robin didn't want to settle down, so there was no point in dating because you were looking for a future bride, fine. now 7 years later you see her all vulnerable and single and ready to commit, and you're in love again? puh-lis. just before that sudden confession, you were hitting on girls because you didn't want to be alone on Valentine's Day, boo!
“Sometimes, things need to fall apart to make way for better things.”
| — | Ted Mosby |
now you heard it clear, Robin wasn't in love with you, ever. you've got your closure. now go find the mother.
FINALLY, THE FINALE
forget about Barney-Ted-Robin for a while, what happened to our favourite couple Marshall and Lily?
in the previous season finale, they found out they're having a baby, but this season finale - they had the baby already!

Welcome to the gang, Marvin Wait-for-it Eriksen!

i love Marshall, Lily and now Marvin, but we just have to get back to those romance and suspense don't we? let this one little family sleep so they don't hear my heart explodes with emotions.
after Barney broke up with Nora and his heart being stomped on by Robin, he found a new girlfriend - a rebound girlfriend actually, not healthy, he thought he was in love and happy but in reality he was burying his misery - named Quinn, or Karma, which was her stripper name. yes, she was a stripper.
Barney has always liked strippers (or what they do), so good for him to have a girlfriend of that nature. if Robin and Barney had chemistry, Quinn was actually the male version of Barney. that's cute and would get them together, but that's not gonna keep them forever. while Barney and Robin's "awesomeness cancelled out each other", i'm sure two versions of the same person won't work either. of course, Barney met his match, she gave him em, what he needed, but she was not Robin. so, sorry, you're cool but it's not long before we're gonna say good bye to you Quinn.
they will end up together, trust me. this thing about Robin with Don/Kevin and Barney with Nora/Quinn, it's a mistake had to be done so they'd know what's right for them. it takes meeting the wrong people to teach you how to know who's the right one. it's being with others which makes you realize what you want in the one. their other relationships weren't obstacles standing in the way, but rather a path bringing them to the right destination.
maybe the experience in other relationships would make them a better man and woman, a better lover. they'd learn something from it which they could use later. those experiences would make them mature and better when Robin and Barney finally get together. if it hadn't been for Don/Kevin and Nora/Quinn, maybe Robin and Barney were still the same person they once were and it's impossible for them to get back together.
in the end, Barney and Robin will realize they need no one else but each other.
how Kevin unproposed when he found out Robin didn't want kids and Barney couldn't accept Quinn being a stripper, it shows they need a relationship in which two people can accept each other and never ask the other person to change. you saw how flawless Barney/Robin was when they were a couple. no change was required, everything was accepted. the only thing was it's the wrong timing.
BUT BUT BUT
that sweet, sweet Barney, for the first time, thought about getting married and having kids. BARNEY, WHO DIDN'T APPROVE MARRIAGE AND WANTED TO LIVE HIS LIFE LAYING ON A BED OF WOMEN AND MONEY AND SUITS, WANTED TO SETTLE DOWN. he's grown up :')
but Robin... although quite ready to tie the knot..... can't and won't have kids. what will happen to the dreams of my sweet barneeeeey?
well i say, screw it.
WAIT WAIT WAIT WHAT ABOUT TED?
ok i'm a bit (read: very) obsessed with Robin/Barney, that i seem to forget the whole point of this story is how Ted met the mother.
no, i didn't forget him. i'm putting him on hold. if you're a fan who's never missed an episode which sometimes includes clues about the mother, you'll know why.
Ted told his kids he met their mother at a wedding, the last wedding he thought he would ever be at. and tadaaa, who's one person the world thought would never want to get married? BARNEY! TED MET THE MOTHER AT HIS BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING! WHICH HE ACTED AS THE BEST MAN! YOU KNOW WHO ELSE ASKED TED TO BE THEIR BEST MAN? ROBIN! SO AGAIN, THAT'S WHY "THE BRIDE WANTS TO SEE YOU TED"!
back to Ted, so before he meets the one and ends the whole series, Barney must meet his first.
after giving him the closure, Robin once again became Ted's cheerleader. who gave him hell for being full of craps and chasing after the wrong girls.
ironically, despite of her advice, she told Ted to call Victoria, Ted's girlfriend in the first season - the one who got away because he cheated with Robin. what's the irony you asked? well... Victoria's engaged.
Ted called her and she agreed to meet.
Ted : Okay, I need to figure out if Victoria ever got engaged. I’ll have to very subtly check for an engagement ring.
Victoria :
Ted : Hmm, can’t see the left hand.
Me : RLY?
after a couple of seconds only Ted realized why the hell was Victoria in a wedding gown?! it was her wedding day, but she was ready to become some else's the one who got away. that guy would be left at the altar... something Ted knew how it felt. you'd think he would have sympathized with him, being left on his wedding day when Stella left with her ex. he would know the right thing to do... but

THEODORE MOSBY! DAHEL R U DOIN?!
meanwhile in an airport, Barney proposed to Quinn. TRUE STORY. I CAN'T EVEN, WUTEV.
so when you were in denial but still preparing yourself to see Quinn in her wedding dress...
so when you were in denial but still preparing yourself to see Quinn in her wedding dress...
ROBIN'S RIGHT THERE, BUT SOME PEOPLE JUST CAN'T HAVE IT THAT WAY CAN THEY?
this link : 63 reasons why Robin is Barney's bride
this link : an interview with HIMYM's boss "it had to be her."
two of the similarities between HP and HIMYM are the foreshadowing, the continuity, the hints and the plot holes being filled AND the debates and predictions about what's gonna happen. i love it all :')
there are speculations all over the internet. one, because they are Robin/Ted shippers. two, because HIMYM is a story of twists and turns. so people are still refusing to believe what's between the eyes.
although i reject all theories because i'm a shipper of Barnman and Robin, even i'm afraid to believe it myself. i'm afraid the wedding doesn't go as planned, as the future Ted narrated it this way "it was a wedding gone horribly wrong."
1. Double Wedding Theory
maybe Ted being summoned by the bride doesn't mean it's the same groom's bride who summoned Ted before that, because Robin had also asked Ted to be her best man, and Ted would naturally be Barney's. maybe they got married on the same day in the same church with the same best man... but not to each other. NO!
2. Cancelled Wedding Theory
well, my theory is he maybe didn't go through with it... but still ended up with Robin. cos the two of them were modern people who didn't want to settle down and have a family like normal folks would. maybe they figured, they still can be in a committed relationship without a ring on their finger?
i like this idea better as long as they're still together.
3. Bride Swapped Theory
Barney was about to marry Quinn before something happened (maybe Robin came running in and stopped the wedding/Barney realized his feelings/Quinn realized Robin and Barney's feelings/etc), which caused the change of the bride, from Quinn to Robin. maybe that's what Ted meant by saying it's a wedding gone wrong.
and did you realize the mini tight striking pink bridesmaid dress Lily's wearing? it's not something Robin would choose for her bridesmaids and even if she went insane and did, Lily would never agreed to it. striking pink and being sexy are Quinn's things. so maybe at first it was Quinn's wedding indeed.
4. The Mother Theory
- Victoria
as much as she seems like the one episode wise, she isn't. why? cos if you ever pay attention, there are some hints about Ted's wife which can never make her Victoria. one, and the most important so far, is he met her at Barney's wedding. some people point out how quirky Victoria is, after everything that happened between them she might want to start over and introduce herself as if they just met. ok, not impossible.
but when Ted was dating a girl, he went to her apartment. he saw an ankle of the girl's roommate... who happened to be his future soul mate.
and on Ted's first day of being a professor, he entered a lecture hall and rambled about architecture just to be told later that he was in the wrong hall. it was funny and embarrassing... more so when it turned out his future wife was sitting in there watching him made a fool of himself.
so, no Victoria.
- Robin
some shippers believe that she's the mother, despite the very first episode when Ted told his kids "so that's how i met your Aunt Robin." AUNT! IS THAT NOT ENOUGH?
or not, apparently for some who go too far thinking maybe their mom's dead and then he remarried Robin. siriusly, i don't think they will call their step mom 'aunt', it's not a normality for westerners. and to kill off Ted's wife, whom he's been waiting for forever, after all this time just to have her dead to satisfy your shipper's heart? shame on you!
as it turned out, when Ted told the kids about Robin on the very first episode, he didn't say it for himself. but he said it for Barney... OMG THIS GIF ABOVE MAKES MY HEART MELT
the reason why the pilot started when the geng met Robin is because she's gonna marry Barney, and that's how Robin became significant because at Robin and Barney's wedding was where Ted met the mother. without Robin, it would not happen. Robin is an important part not because she's the one for Ted, but because she'll bring Ted to the one.
can you guess why he referred Robin as 'aunt' and Barney as 'uncle' to his kids besides the fact that the three of them are best friends... ?
because the mother could be.....
- Barney's half sister, Carly!
MIND BLOWN ISN'T IT? A UNIVERSITY STUDENT, PROBABLY AT TED'S UNIVERSITY, AND WHO WAS THE ROOMMATE OF TED'S EX-GF WHO WAS A STUDENT, AND LIKE BARNEY, HE HADN'T MET HER YET!
it's Friends all over again. Ross's best friend, Chandler, married his sister Monica, whose best friend was Rachel, who ended up with Ross! best friends inbreeding = one happy family.
it's Harry Potter all over again. Ron's best friend, Harry, married his sister Ginny, while Hermione, the best friend of both Ron and Harry, married Ron! best friends inbreeding again.
but no complain, as i love them all and best friends marrying each other and forming their own family are awesome! please let it happen in HIMYM's case. Barney needs to marry Robin and Ted needs to marry Carly, so that's how Barney and Ron became uncle and aunt to Ted's kids!
5. There's No Mother Theory
Conspiracy Keanu, enough with the conspiracies oredi
just because this is a story which has blown minds many times, doesn't mean at the end of the episode he'd tell them "you're adopted", or "that's how i met your mom who is not my wife cos i married Robin or whoever she is", or "so kids, that's the story of how Uncle Barney met Aunt Robin, the end." no.
“The great moments of your life won’t necessarily be the things you do, they’ll also be the things that happen to you. Now, I’m not saying you can’t take action to affect the outcome of your life, you have to take action, and you will. But never forget that on any day, you can step out the front door and your whole life can change forever. You see, the universe has a plan kids, and that plan is always in motion. A butterfly flaps its wings, and it starts to rain. It’s a scary thought but it’s also kind of wonderful. All these little parts of the machine constantly working, making sure that you end up exactly where you’re supposed to be, exactly when you’re supposed to be there. The right place at the right time.”

she better be one heck of a mother Ted.
